Meet Kechi Okwuchi, Nigerian lady who survived Sosoliso air crash 17 years ago which killed 108 people

Kechi Okwuchi remembers the Sosoliso aircraft tragedy, which took 108 lives: "17 years after the crash, and I have 60 reasons to stay on"

In order to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the Sosoliso plane disaster she escaped on December 10, 2005, American-born Nigerian musician Kechi Okwuchi took to Twitter.

Remember that Kechi was one of the 110 passengers on the unfortunate airplane that departed from Abuja and made an emergency landing at Port Harcourt International Airport? The aircraft crashed to the ground and caught fire.

Many passengers were injured at the first collision but perished in the ensuing fire. Unfortunately, only two persons out of the 103 passengers and 7 crew members survived after being rescued and transferred to hospitals. One of the survivors was Kechi.

The 33-year-old novelist shared some of the incredible things she has done since the tragedy on Twitter today, December 10, as she paid tribute to the tragic flight and grieved the victims.

She penned,

“To the 60 angels: 17 yrs since the crash & I have 60 reasons to keep on. This year I published a book & became an MBA graduate. I’ll use these things to make you even prouder. To each soul that was lost 17 yrs ago today, our memories of you are fond & you will never be forgotten.”
