'Betrayal': Vini Jr seen celebrating before Benzema's penalty miss as Real Madrid split points with Osasuna

Benzema betrays Vini Jr as Brazilian celebrated just before crucial penalty miss

Karim Benzema betrayed the trust of Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Junior, as Los Blancos dropped points for the first time this term.

Benzema, who was returning from an injury lay-off, had the opportunity to keep Real Madrid’s 100 per cent start to the 2022-23 season intact.

The Frenchman however, who scored a staggering 44 goals in 46 matches across all competitions last season, missed from 12 yards as Madrid shared the spoils with 10-man Osasuna on Sunday, reports BBC.

It was the second time the 34-year-old has missed from the spot this season. However, it was Vinicius Junior’s reaction before Benzema’s missed attempt that has made the rounds on the internet.

Prior to Benzema stepping up to take the penalty, Vinicius already had his hands in the air as he prepared to celebrate but unfortunately, the Brazilian counted his chickens before they hatched.

The usually reliable Benzema saw his effort crash against the crossbar, much to the disappointment of Vinicius.

Madrid eventually mustered a series of attacks, including a goal which was chopped off as offside as Osasuna held the defending La Liga champions to a 1-1 draw.

Benzema’s missed penalty costs Real Madrid valuable points against Osasuna

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Karim Benzema missed a penalty for Real Madrid as they finally blinked in the La Liga title race, dropping their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Sunday.

After Barcelona beat Real Mallorca on Saturday, Madrid knew they had to win to stay top but were frustrated by Jagoba Arrasate’s well-organised side at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Benzema, on his return to the side after injury, won a spot-kick but then fired it against the crossbar, and also had a goal disallowed for offside as Madrid tried to force a way through.
