Although it has been revealed that Gal Gadot would portray Cleopatra in a future film, she has already been under fire and been accused of whitewashing.

The “Wonder Woman” actress has responded to critics who have stated that an Arab or African actress should take on the role of the ancient Egyptian queen.

Gal Gadot told BBC Arabic’s Sam Asi, “First of all, if you want to be honest to the facts, then Cleopatra was Macedonian.

The ideal Macedonian actress to play Cleopatra was sought after. I was extremely passionate about Cleopatra even though she wasn’t present.

I have friends from all over the world, whether they are Muslims, Christians, Catholics, Atheists, Buddhists, or, of course, Jews, Gadot continued. People are people, and together we want to honor this incredible historical icon—Cleopatra—and celebrate her legacy.

“Anyone can make this movie, so just go for it,” said the speaker. I’m going to do mine too because I’m so passionate about it,” Gadot said in conclusion.
